LLM Thesis
The LLM by thesis comprises:
- a dissertation of approximately 40 000 words (or 120 pages, double spacing, font size 12);
- on a topic approved by the faculty board of the Law Faculty;
- under supervision of a member of the faculty.

The cost is approximately R13 340 for the first year of registration and a continuation fee of approximately R3615 for subsequent registrations.
The entry level requirement is a LLB degree.
In order to apply:
- complete the electronic application available at : Maties ;
- include certified copies of your academic records and degree certificates ;
- it is very important that your application is accompanied by a research proposal. The research proposal will be evaluated by an ad hoc committee of the relevant department. Only once the faculty board has approved the proposal will the student be allowed to register for the programme. (See the Faculty Guide on Postgraduate Degrees for more information.)
Applications for the first semester close on 15 January. Applications for the second semester close on 15 July. Late applications will be considered.
